Another short week for Dave

Last week was short, because we had to take Katherine in to the Doctor to have her horn removed. This week is short for me also, because tomorrow, I am taking Kara and Katherine to the Big E! It looks to be a beautiful day, and I'm very much looking forward to it, especially since I get the day off of work to go. So I can stay up late tonight (there's a big surprise), and prepare for the long drive out tomorrow. We're trying to time the trip so that the trip out is Katherine's morning nap, and the trip back is her afternoon nap. I'll let you know how it goes. There will be a camera present as well.

Katherine Update

Katherine had her nine month checkup this morning. She's healthy and wonderful, of course. She's now 29 inches long ( 75th percentile) and 19 pounds, 4 ounces (50th to 75th percentile). Thankfully, she only had one shot, Hep-B, so it wasn't that bad. She goes in again a day after her first birthday.

I wrote down the above numbers on a sheet of paper I stole from the exam room. I took the pen from Kara's purse. It turned out to be her favorite Zebra F-301 pen. She's going to kick my ass when she finds out I took it to work.

Nice long weekend

I took Friday off of work. I had a really nice, long weekend. I spent a lot of time with Katherine, and it was really, really nice. She is really moving around now. She can stand without holding anything for several seconds, move from one object to another while standing, and she crawls really fast. She's also starting to gain some independence in the way she plays. Today, for example, we watched the entire second half of the football game, and she played happily away in the same room for the entire time. This is happening more and more, and it's really nice, because she's into what she's doing, and she's, well, frankly, lower maintenance.

Her ear clearly does not bother her in the least. She doesn't even feel it or play with the Steri-strip or anything. It's like it didn't even happen.

She also had a bit of a cold after the surgery, but we figured she must have gotten it before and not after, since it was just too fast to pick up the bug from the hospital. Kara got it briefly too -- I seem to have been spared. But it really wasn't too bad. A couple days of infant meds, and she was over it. She might have been a little grumpier than normal, but not much.

She is still growing fast. We bought size 4 diapers last week in preparation for running out of our existing stock (which will happen real soon now). We have started to pack up her smaller clothes, since there are just so many of them. She's fitting comfortably in 12-18 month clothes. She's 9 months. Yikes. We have resorted to just keeping a large rubber storage container in her nursery, and we just throw the small stuff in as we find it, and more goes in every day. She likes that too, because she loves to unpack things, and she loves to pull her old clothes out of the container and strew them about the floor. Come to think of it, she generally likes the activity of disassembling whatever organization she can find, whether it's pulling the tupperware out of the kitchen cabinet, the videotapes out of the TV cabinet, etc. And let me tell you, we do not stop her.

We took a morning walk every day this long weekend. Kara joined us this morning, and we squeezed one in before the rain. We walk to Winchester Center, and go to Starbucks for coffee and a scone. Sometimes we visit other stores in the area. It's very pleasant, and a nice bit of excersize. Katherine loves it. For most of the ride, she'll sit up in her jogger and grab the tray with both hands like she's the captain of the vessel.
