Why haven't you blogged, Dave?

Hey, I've been busy! No seriously, I've been really busy. As you know if you are a regular, my company was purchased by Interland. I have taken a position working on technical integration of companies that Interland has acquired. One of my first assignments is working with a company called CommuniTech that was purchased by Interland last year. They are located in Kansas City, Missouri, and I am now basically commuting there four days a week. Yep, I leave on Monday morning, and return on Thursday night.

It's hard to be away from Kara and Katherine, but the work there is really important, and I have thrown myself into it completely.

Kansas City is a great place! Sometimes, when you travel on business, you wonder how you came to be in some place, and you find that you don't like it very much. Kansas City is not at all like that. For one, there are some really interesting parts of the city, the most spectacular being the Country Club Plaza, which I stayed in this week. For Christmas, they string lights up along all the facets of all the buildings in this 14 square block outdoor mall, and it is really pretty, romantic, and just vibrant.

Kansas City also has a tremendous amount of public art, and more fountains than you can shake a stick at.

Kansas City also also has some seriously fantastic sunsets and sunrises, which is awesome for me, since I plan on bringing my camera next week and taking some shots. Sure, it helps to be on the 11th floor of the building during sunset, and sure, it helps that the area around the city is relatively flat. But I've been to much flatter places with far less diurnal drama, and so far, on every clear day, the sun has been dramatic.

Kansas City also has riverboat gambling, but I'm not much of a gambler, so I haven't lost the house yet or anything.

Anyway, be looking for some shots of KC on the home page soon, but not too soon, unless I can find a photo developer in KC that I can really trust.

Oh yeah, Kansas City is in both Kansas and Missouri, but I'm spending my time in Missouri. This makes things interesting also, but I can't quite put my finger on why. I guess it's just kinda cool that you can walk a few blocks and be in a different state. And they call the airport KCI even though the OAG code is MCI. Go figure.

Lastly, KC is famous for Bar-B-Que, and ribs, and other meaty things. You know, other than maybe a few really high end places in Boston, you just don't get good steak up here. I ate more tasty beef and ribs this week in KC than I have in the last year. Yeah, I know, life is tough.
